The eleven hour gala spectacular celebrated the life of filmmaker, Luis Buñuel and his arthouse films, as well as some beautiful indie-cinema from around the globe.

The organisers of the awards emailed a kind message of good wishes following the awards presentation…

“You would be glad to know The Message of the Lyrebird has been selected as a nominee amongst more than 3000 submissions this year. It is a great achievement in itself. It is just sheer hard luck that you missed the crown of Winner by an inch.”

The Lyrebird production team are thrilled with the runner-up acknowledgement from the jury.

“Having visited Kolkata just after we began production on Lyrebird, and experiencing the colour, chaos and splendour of the city’s ‘movie mayhem culture,’ I can entirely understand the passion and spirit of the West Bengal peoples for this film. Ultimately though, it was Kolkata that first activated my feelings and consciousness around the theme of humans and animals existing with one another, which then birthed my first book, Dogs of India. Lyrebird re-visits this same theme I’ve been grappling with for over a decade. Synchronicity completes that circle. This honour will be held close to my heart.”

– Mark Pearce, Lyrebird director
