A new chapter for lyrebirds (Star Mail)

Mater Christi College Year 9 student, Allora Cumming said learning about lyrebirds had given her a greater appreciation of the species and the forests they inhabit.

“Before I met Alex Maisey and learned about the lyrebirds, all I knew about them was that they could imitate sounds, they were beautiful, and that they lived in my forest, now I’ve learnt about their nesting habits and their important role in Australian forest ecosystems, and their natural foraging helps expose buried seeds and supports healthy forest growth,” Allora said.

She said the documentary helped students better understand the wildlife living around them.

“If you don’t know what’s out there, how can you care for it? Connection and understanding with nature is vital to its protection,” she said.
